Using the intuitive masking function, we were able to select the head of our character and place it on a premade vector-image body. ![]() One of this 2D animation software’s best features is that you can import pictures of yourself, friends, family members or pets and turn them into animated characters. Motion capture can save you valuable time, especially if you are an animation beginner. Make sure you are in a well-lit area as this also influences the motion capture accuracy. If your character doesn’t seem to be responding properly you can realign your head with the sensors and start again. Sometimes the program didn’t respond correctly to our noises or head movements in our testing, but it still allowed us to create animations much faster than most of the other programs we tested. If your computer has a camera, CrazyTalk Animator Pro's motion capture feature - often referred to as mocap - can mimic your head movements and facial expressions going so far as to apply automatic lip syncing when audio is imported or recorded. Just be aware that vector graphics creations will need to be converted to SWF files since CrazyTalk cannot open AI files. This makes it so your own creations are quickly turned into puppets and will respond to the premade animations found in the library. This heftier version of the software also provides sprite templates for humans, faces, cats, dogs, horses, wings, and spines that you can attach to your Photoshop or Illustrator characters. It imports and helps you animate your own character creations. The "Pipeline" version, a step up from "Pro", was meant to be used alongside Photoshop and Illustrator. That, in turn, allows you to create sidekick designs, such as magazine covers, infographics, banner designs, etc. There are no drawing tools included as CrazyTalk comes with its own character library. After combing all your custom creations, you can then export them in layers for re-editing and compositing. ![]() Sprites make up the second animation method within the app however, I’d probably have relied on morphing to give Paddington bear facial expressions.ĬrazyTalk Animator 3 doesn’t just import PSD files, it also exports them, allowing you to freely pose illustrated characters, quickly swap outfits and accessories, and create custom facial expressions. Then, by importing the layered result into CrazyTalk Animator 3, the artwork’s layers are translated into sprites and you can start animating. The round-trip PSD Pipeline lets you create characters on which you put the moving parts on different layers. My review version, known as Pipeline, provided me with a fully functional PSD in-and-out solution that allowed me to keep using a familiar design environment for character creation and animated content development. The result is that you can create almost any animation from static elements. But animation can be simpler or far more complex with this app.ĬrazyTalk Animator 3 comes with 2D character templates and character motion libraries-you might call them ready-made animation components-that you can combine with 2D bone rigs, facial puppets, and audio lip-syncing tools, a feature that allows you to create tutorials as well as hilarious cartoons. ![]() By removing the white background, importing it and adding bones, I could control its extremities and head. You can bring an image or a piece of vector art into the application and create an animated figure by applying bouncy “Elastic Motion” effects using “bones.” I tried the app with a PNG image of a stuffed Paddington bear. 2D Animation for Tutorials, Games, and VideosĪnimation for anything from presentations to games and goofy YouTube movies is possible with CrazyTalk Animator 3.
